I am getting ready to start planning for my business in 2010 and adding some new services and taking some out of the mix. Refining what I do and how I do it. This is a new thing for me, I am a planner but to plan a whole year’s worth for my business (not to mention working in family and personal time) is exciting and scary all at the same time.
Many people believe in setting “New Year’s Resolutions”, but have you considered setting “goals” instead. Goals for your business and goals for your personal life.
Write it down. Take some time to sit down with a notebook, or at least a piece of paper and a pen and do this the old fashioned way. There is something about writing it down that makes it more real and that “commits” you in your heart and mind to your goals.
Break it into parts. Breaking your year down into 4 “quarters” if you will and setting your goals in increments of 3 months can be quite effective. It gives you a deadline which can be powerful in motivating you to achieve your goals. It also helps you to break your goals into chunks and not have to feel like you have to accomplish so much so fast.
What about you? What do you do to plan for the new year, do you plan ahead?
