This morning the unthinkable in the social networking / social media world happened.  Twitter was down for two hours and Twitter folks didn’t even know why at first.  Later it was determined that it was due to a DDoS, or a Distributed Denial of Service attack.  According to Mashable.com this is done bye an inundating the site with so many fake requests that it cannot recognize the real ones.  See below:

This outage this morning caused many social networkers to hoop over to Facebook, which then received the same outage.  This will teach us one good lesson, we should really be diversifying our social networking, rather than relying on the two most popular sites to network with.  Try out something new today, LinkedIn, Myspace, change it up a little so that this type outage doesn’t have you stalled in your tracks.
