Can Social Networking Be Used to Promote a Local Business?

Can social networking be used to promote a local business?  Absolutely, with the use of several social networking sites a local business can create quite a buzz online.  Here are a few ways this can be done.

Set up a business page on Facebook. Then search for local connections and ask them to “like” the page.  You can even start contests via this page to get your local community involved.

Use new location based networks like Foursquare and Yelp. These help to get your local connections involved and let them know about you, as a result they end up promoting you as they share their activity.

Get Linked up on LinkedIn. Linked In is a more “business” network by nature, but this will be a great place to network with other business owners.  There is so much you can learn from your competition.
